A PRAYER FOR A MAN WALKING DOWN THE RAILWAY TRACKS

A PRAYER FOR MAN WALKING
DOWN THE RAILWAY TRACKS

Dedicated to Milenko Misailoviæ who,
in childhood, would always begin
his communion with God with a prayer,
pleading that the train will not run over
the man walking down the railway tracks.

O, Lord, I pray to Thee
please save the man
walking down the railway tracks,
some man walking, somewhere,
down the tracks.

For a train might come
perhaps at any moment now,
yes, a train is sure to come
rushing out of some tunnel,
whistling at length
and nothing else
will ever more be heard.

O, please save
the man
walking down the railway tracks.

Perhaps he has taken a wrong turn
or was bewitched by the tracks,
going after a train
which can never
be caught up with again.

Perhaps he somehow believes
that the earth was replaced
by the sky
believing that trains
cannot in any way cause
harm to apparitions.

O, save him, please,
even though he has
crossed the river of the nether world
and has merged with the earth,
the wooden tiles
and metal,
and no longer feels
the rumbling of trains,
the rumbling of trains
which make their way
through my soul
whistling forever more.

THE BUILDING OF THE TEMPLE

You and I are the
Temple
which is being built.

Soon
the dome will be raised
and the splendid
golden cross
will be visible
from all sides.

And what will
happen then?

Then the people
will enter inside of us.

And in an endless line
of lit candles
our soul will grow
bigger
and bigger...

A WORD SENDING ME WORD
(Part of a cycle of poems)

The Word Love
A pauper
giving
everything he has
to a person who is wealthy

The Word Giving
The most
that a man
can take away

The Word Sincerity
With a single pair of wings
fly the birds in the flock

The Word Responsibility
If you do not tend the garden
which you have planted
whither you will too.

The Word Happiness
A goldfish
will not fulfill the wishes
of the person who
catches it in a net
but will for the one
who shall utter words
in the language
of goldfish.

The Words Fairy Tale
If perchance you believe
in a magic wand
find it you will
in your garden own.
